Are You A New Creature?
You might have noticed that all CREACHER cartoons are signed CREACHER 2Cor5:17. Have you wondered why? Well I’m about to tell you.
I was preaching at a church on one of my favorite passages of Scripture. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (2Cor5:17, get it) It says therefore if anyone is in Christ, He is a New Creation. The old has gone and the new has come. It’s one of my favorite verses because it’s what happened to me. I was always one of those people who got picked on a lot and never fit in. I was a mess, going nowhere fast and at the end of my rope. I was at a point where it just felt like life couldn’t get any worse. I felt like a loser, totally worthless and on and on. I was miserable and I was drowning my sorrows in a lot of alcohol.
One night I hit rock bottom and in the midst of my despair, I cried out “God help me.” Within two weeks of that night I met someone who invited me to church. I didn’t want to go, but I knew I was in deep trouble, so I went. When I got there, the people welcomed me, showed me to love and helped me to become a believer in Jesus Christ. They told me how we all sin, (which is nothing more than doing things we know are wrong), but how God loves me so much He sent His Son Jesus, to die for my sins in my place. They told me how I could ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord and Savior and I did.
I can’t say everything changed overnight, but it did change and I changed. I have hope, I know God loves me and I know that no matter what happens God has me covered. Even when I die, I’ll go to heaven all because of Jesus. He gives me a peace that I don’t always understand. I also learned that God has a purpose for my life and now I live to honor him. Jesus Christ has radically changed my life. I’m a new Creation.
So why do I ask if you’re a new creature? Well remember I told you about preaching at that church? Well that church uses a translation of the Bible called the King James Version. It say basically the same thing but the words are a little different. Instead of “New Creation” it says “New Creature.” When I saw that I kind of laughed. I’ve been drawing creatures my whole life and knowing God has a purpose for my life, I started to wonder if he had a use for my ability to draw Creatures. Out of that was the idea that would become Creacher.
God has been really good to me, but the truth is I’m no more special than anyone else and what God did for me, He will do for you. You don’t have to be at the bottom, like I was either. Everyone needs Jesus. Everyone needs to be a New Creature. Are you a New Creature in Jesus? If you’d like to ask Jesus to come into your heart, just pray a prayer like this one.
I know I sometimes do things I know are wrong. This makes me a sinner and I am sorry.
Please forgive me. I know Jesus died for my sins and I ask Him to be my Lord and Savior.
Please come into my life, save me and show me your purpose for my life.
Help me to live for you. Help me to represent you well.
Thank you for loving me. Please make me a new creature.
Take the best of me and change the rest of me.
In Jesus name,
If you prayed that prayer and meant it, you are a New Creature in Christ.
